Water Damage Prevention: Hose Bibs or Taps
08 Oct 2010
Disconnect outside hoses!
It's still great weather here in Eastern Idaho. As we approach mid-October things can change quickly with night time temperatures dropping below freezing. Freezing outside watering hoses attached to hose bibs. (Outside Faucets). This can cause broken pipes just inside the house. Causing flooding.
Here's a tip to prevent this type of pipe and water damage.
Remove the hose from the hose bib after using it. DO NOT LEAVE HOSES CONTECTED TO THE WATER SOURCE THRU THE NIGHT... OR CONNECTED ALL WINTER LONG.
INSTALL INSULATED COVERS ON OUTSIDE TAPS!
As colder weather becomes a regular occurance protect outside water faucets with insulated covers. They are inexpensive, easy to install and work quite well. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and the risk of frozen house bibs (taps) can be reduced significantly.

Saftey should always be your main concern: Turn off the electrical power to the area of the water damage and in some cases with major flooding the entire house or office.
If you have a water damage locate the source of water. Should your damage be from a broken pipe, water supply line, water softener, dishwasher or clothes washer. Shut of the water to the appliance and perhaps the supply to your home or office.
